GLBT Region?  (United States)

I would like to propose a Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgender Region, possibly with assistance from others who participate in these lifestyles.

There are large communities of these types on Sl, and I believe they should also have a prescence here.

I am open to any suggestions concerning this idea, as well as volunteers to help establish and maintain such a region.

you can reply to me here, or IM me in-world on SL under the name crysti Thor, or email to crysti_e@yahoo.com (email please include OpenLife in the subject line)

thanks

Re: GLBT Region?  (Italy)

Actually, a nice idea. :)

SL has become quite important not because of the technology but because of the content.

So communities using OL are very important for OL to take off :)

Is there already a map of communities using OL?

While I understand you need for expression... please understand this is a  PG or 15+ grid. all walks of life or lifestyles are welcome .. but it is not required to be advertised!  Do you want a area that you feel " safe in" or a lable that you can wear? There is no advantage in advertising you gender likes in a region or sim.. and if its for motives other than teen mature ... well there is always seconfd life. Im sure your familliar with it.

But as you correctly mentioned there are some communities tha feel the need to be represented.. hence opensim project.. do a search and knock ya socks off.

Personally . Im here to avoid the BS and politics from SL , to build in total freedom and just enjoy. If you feel you need to have a special group then thats not very open source is it?We are one cool group united by the freedom to build, test, tweek, and crash under the flag of Openlife. Everyone is welcome and no ones special! We are just Openlife! Enjoy

PS that is about as political/groupish as Im going to do ... ever in this world.

Re: GLBT Region?  (United Kingdom)

Personally, I don't really see the need for a region specifically dedicated to a particular group of sexualities or lifestyles: we are already a community and it seems divisive to start separating out into enclaves.

However, if you do feel that such a region is a necessity then go ahead and buy a region and set it up howsoever you wish:  so long as you stay within the 15+ bounds and keep overt sexuality (of any kind) under wraps you can do what you like in your own region.

Re: GLBT Region?  (United States)
I second that opinion.... Open Life should not become a political forum. I have no problem with what people of any orientation do in the privacy of their bedrooms, but there is no reason to bring what should be in the bedroom between consenting adults (or furries) into the public forum. As Violet said, we don't need to be breaking into factions. You may of course buy a region and use it to promote any agenda you wish as long as it is within the TOS and standards of the community, but I see no reason to start lobbying for Open Life to pay for or endorse such an endeavor.

And I'll second Osiris. No need for that. Go ahead, buy a region, promote your own thing as long as it is within the TOS. Things like this would only force us to look at that sort of thing rather than remain as united or unified as we are. Let's not break us into any other factions. Being separate from SL is enough for me. OLG is not about promoting any specific lifestyle or preference.

Re: GLBT Region?  (Italy)

I don't see anything bad in any kind of communities possibly spreading in OL so far as they can be in the TOS as you said. One of the major points I disliked in Linden was that they kept the right to judge from their privileged POV.

I thought that "OpenLife" was something open. Should I be convinced it is something closed?

Is there any point in the TOS prohibiting the growing of inner communities? I thought this forum thread was really put for this purpose.

:)

Re: GLBT Region?  (United Kingdom)

No one is saying that such a community cannot exist in Openlife.  But the original poster appeared to be proposing a free (i.e. not paid for) Community region for this purpose.  That is where the idea falls down as far as I am concerned: setting up Community regions based on gender, sexuality, race, politics or religion is divisive.

If we have a GLBT Community region then it is only fair to have a Heterosexual, Original-gender Community region and that would be a complete nonsense.

Anyone can buy a region or a private cluster and set it up for any community that they so wish (within the ToS): it is the assumption that some groups should get such regions for free that I object to.

Re: GLBT Region?  (Italy)

Thank you for clarifying this.

Actually I agree with you that OL is still very young project and since (As far As I can see) there are limited resources and people involved, they should be heavily focused on common goals and targets, and possible divisions and discussion should be avoided and prevented...

Let's concentrate at this stage on more basical things like OL University, Freebie and stabilization :)

Re: GLBT Region?  (United States)

Well I agree with the origional posters question in one aspect only. There should be a 18+ or adult area option.  Go ahead and think im a perv or a wack job but heres my reasoning.

First the majority of users in SL are  the the 40yo age bracket. Now here is issue  I have. You take any sicko who is an adult and mix them with teens that is a recipy for a pedifile case. Secondly how many teens have the money for a sim and a credit card. Mom and/or Dad  usually pay for it.

I know what most will say is that then the parents are responsible but unfortunatly todays times most parents have no clue on what their kids are doing. The ones that do know deserve a big kudos. On a side note when I go into OL or SL i dont want to be bothered by teens, Its my time to be away from them.

Also when it comes to  business  sex sells. There is no way around it it just does. To limit things to a 15+ will turn away alot of potential good people because they will see that and automatically feel limited to what they can and cant do. For an example take an article of clothing. Say it is too revealing (shows off a nipple, or the butt crack is showing) in a 15+ world some will yell that is too much and it should not be allowed where as others couldnt care less. Heck ive seen some cuddle balls in sl and heard peeps complaining that it should not be allowed in public. Ugh RL people will make out in the mall and parking lot for peats sake so 2 same sex av's are cuddling in public not my cup of tea to see but big deal ya walk away.

I agree with all in saying the xxx stuff is way to much in sl and I agree  it doesnt need to be here. But for OLG to grow it needs to be thinking all the way around. Having a few non mainland regons that are 18+ should be done. Keep the mainland PG or vice versa. Add to the toc about no open and blaten xxx in the 18+. It can be controlled and if they disreguard then boot em. Age verification should be done and if there age is not verified then they cant go into a 18+ regon.

Im not sure who said it about keeping it behind closed doors if you want to cuddle you av honey. Im guessing you never had one of those neighbors (in RL)  who was always in your business. Or experienced people camming into your virtual house. There will always be that goody two shoes doing junk like that and then complaining about it. Why because they feel it is inaproperate in a PG area.

I understand that getting the grid stable and running is the first and most important thing, But with SL loosing peeps on a daily basis nows the time to get those peeps here to help with the funding.
