I would like to propose some changes to the terrain textures set for mainland. I think coastal regions would benefit from a good beach sand texture for texture one and maybe a raise of the level from 10m to 15m or 20m.
Also a large part of the interior is above 80m or so and appears as barren rock. Perhaps the third texture might be changed to grass. That would make a lot of the land look more pleasant.
Anyone else think so?

I've been thinking very much the same, I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts before we go ahead and make such a big sweeping change.
I was thinking perhaps changing all 4 textures to ones with more vibrant colours. (so that the land would look a little richer in colour).

It would be even more exciting if we could import Google Sketchup 3D formats..there are tons of creative available textures available on Google earth.

I concur. Sandy textures would be nice for the folks who want to have beaches. I want to build a marshy reedy wetlands and would like to bring all but a navigable channel through my land up to just below the water level - having a choice for a green water's edge would be nice too.

Green grass up to 200 meters, then rock on up. beach sand up to 50m, water at what? 30m or 20... I like deep diving. Meditating Avatar

Sakai, I'd be happy to see some new texture colors. I'm not too particular about the terrain changes by altitude, but some beach sand would be nice. |

I don't mind what the beach is changed to, I'm perfectly happy with the current beach texture but would be equally happy with another.
Lusher grass would be great.
I'm happy with the barren upper texture since my upper landscape will involve quite a few bare rocks. |

I like deep diving too but I think that would have to entail a lowering of the seabed rather than raising the terrain texture because (presumably) the water is at a set height. I wouldn't want sand texture up to 50m. I like sand to grass transition where is now. Also if the upper height of the sand texture were raised it would mean that people with a river on their land could end up with a lot of sand too. |

We talked about this a lot for the Vue regions in Second Life and adopted the following scheme.. which seems to fit with what people are suggesting for OpenlifeGrid. Here is our guidance:
The core islands use the following textures:
* Terrain Textures -> Beach Sand
* Terrain Textures -> Default Set -> Default Set Grass
* Terrain Textures -> NW Coastal -> NW Coastal Grass Clumpy
* Terrain Textures -> Default Set -> Default Set -> Default Mountain Rock
Default heights for the 4 corners of the regions is 8.0 (i.e. well below nornmal sea level) to 40.0.
Changes to these agreed heights is possible by agreement between adjacent island owners at each corner.
In general the highest elevation texture may be changed without affecting anyone else or the continuity across the region boundary.

yes i agree with everyone. i would love a change in texture. the one we have now is strangly tiled and it kind of drives me bonkers.
i do prefer beach sand for sea level and lower. (and not that ugly lichen covered rock) there is a great beach texture in SL that has what looks like large wind formed ridges of white sand
would you consider snow for sims? |

I lived on a snow sim for quite a long time and after a year I found myself longing for greener pastures because I was tired of adding color to all the white around me. I have some every beautiful terrain textures and being the dummy I am - thought I could change the textures on my land like I can on SL. lol! But I would love to see a terrain that is a lot more vibrant in color. Pfft...yah...ok...if you say so. |

Whatever happens, could we get copies of whatever the textures are set to in the openlife library please? |

Seconds that... :-)
And also I'd love to see some *pure white* sand--I've seen some advertised in SLEX and even what I've seen in inworld in SL--they've never been pure enough white for me :-)
