Openlife Islands

Anyone think it's worth us getting together and assembling a team of voluenteer's obviously under direction from Sakai to spend some time at the Openlife Islands mainly to welcome and give a little info to newcomers. I'm by no means suggesting mentors as most people are obviously SL veterans just checking it out but if someone was there just to chat, give a little info on OL and where it's up too, maybe direct them to the more developed regions to take a look it may impress on them to continue to visit or at least ensure they see the potential to return at a later date when things are really moving.

I know this could potentially open a can of worms for advertising and directing people to your own specific region but most region holders I'v spoken too seem to hold OL's interest's as highly as their own.

If this has already been suggested, my appologies.

Re: Openlife Islands

It sure is a good idea and it would be nice to be able to implement it. thing is we are few people that can spare the time. How about finding a way to post developped regions at the welcome area? Landmarks work and I have a few. As for advertising our own regions, no problem there, we are foundation residents and our first goal is to develop and create anything that will bring people into OL. Without us, this would be an empty place.

I think a few of us do spend time at the Openlife island. We must consider also the time of day.

Re: Openlife Islands

Yes Danny we have been doing it for a long while now the greeting and when people can spare time you will see them about there as it is we do it off our own backs but sakai will normaly tell us in chat when its busy at welcome,

The advertising issue is not a problem as we are promoting the grid but we only advertise Openlife there as thats what welcome is about

Re: Openlife Islands

Hi Danny, good idea

Like Git said, we are doing it when we can unoficially at the moment.

It is something that we can discuss when we get the resident meetings established too. I have bumped the foundations resident thread if you are interested in getting involved.

Re: Openlife Islands

That's great news, I'll put in as much time there as I can spare and that my pathetic laptop will allow me.

The foundations resident inworld meeting is a superb idea so of course count me in. Are you planning a fixed meeting place or randomizing the location?

Re: Openlife Islands

Maybe Sakai could have the volunteers upgrade and maintain the infrastructure on the islands too.  Maintaining the grid is a lot of work, so he probably doesn't get much time to work on the islands.  He could instead lay out a basic design and have volunteers construct buildings, roads, signage etc.

Re: Openlife Islands

Danny, no plans yet, whatever is decided will be agreed by all who attend.

I am thinking it may be an idea to have the first meeting in one of the chat rooms here till we sort out organisors and a venue and times suitable to as many as possible.
