| Helping us fix the site to support more browsers |
|
|
Hi Openlife Residents.
We recently made changes to the website to make it more accessable via more web browsers. It appears we have achieved a lot of this but there are still little issues around.
We would love to hear your feedback / screenshot etc of things that you like or you don't feel are displaying correctly.
Please post them to this forum thread.
Kind Regards,

(cross-posted from "Downloads Broken?")
Yes.. The site is not playing the game with us.
I also, using FF3 with Kubuntu 8.04
I don't think we need the latest forum posts on every page.
This is how it looks from my end of the paddock. All sizes have some issues.
And the right hand side is compltely cut off in places.
On other pages the grey area is bare of info/empty wasted space.
I get around the login by Bookmarking the Login page itself.

Like Macca said.
adding to that all of the icons at the top of the page lining-up vertically is supremely annoying. Popular forum threads and Latest posts lists are totally useless and waste of space, even when collapsed. Why the huge "Forum" header at the top of the page? it's obvious which section we are by the content of the page, so no need to cover 20% of the page with a big header. Meditating Avatar

We have changed the layout of the forums slightly to be more accomodating of rorum size.
The arrangement of the icons at top of the page we will need to do a little more on this one.

OK. Here I go.
Too many options makes the visitor dizzy. Get rid of the color and text size choices. VERY high contrast colors only
Too small of a font ____es us off (62% 1.2em please).
Can't see the left column because of the...what are those floating icon navigation things anyway. ;-)
Copy formatting. Write well and print well.
Make it easy for people to log in from any page on the site.
Allow notifications and readily available correspondence of blogs and forum posts.
Just my opinion. ;-) Join me in Petrona region.

Points taken.
We are continuing to work on this site almost daily, and have a draft site underway to dramatically change, provide better quality information and a better arrival to site -> in world experience.
Thanks for the feedback. (Please everyone feel free to keep the feedback coming).

| I don't understand why the login link has got to go to a whole new page. That is one more step we shouldn't have to go through. Have the text box on every page that one can get to without logging in and log in directly from that text box/link. Don't have us link to a page with a text box on it. Please? Pretty please? |

Letting the boss know that firefox I use does not show pages properly.
Kubuntu Linux 8.10---FF 3.0.3---
Been like this for a while now. I used to see the header image but not for several weeks now. Main page is ok.
The site menu bar does appear when hovered over. I´m sure I am not alone here.
BUT the staying logged in is fabulous!

Staying logged in is sooo nice, but here are couple problems with posting on the firum, blogs...cache issues I think. My browser also looks the same as Mecca's. Maybe too many css links, underscores for ID names not to mention 374 other errors showing up when I validate the site. Sooo much to do, not enough people to do it. But, what's the rush right? Seconded.Or should that be "opened" here?
I found (as possibly others have) that turning off Javascript makes the floaters disappear - along with most of the functionality of the site. Even logging out is handled by a JS routine. So I'd say there is still acres of space for simplification at least on the forum...
If you have to keep the floaters, please add margins to the pages so they won't cover up the text. |

I vote to axe the floating icons also. A small set at the top of the page would do. It's only one click to get back to "home" and the icons if you love them. Also it is difficult when you are new to tell if you are replying to the original post or to the one you are clicking on. Here, it seems like they all go into the main thread. That is not always the case everywhere though and some sites have treed forums. Not sure how to deal with this. Just a comment.
Agree the header could be smaller as I am on a huge monitor at 1680 and it still fills up a lot of the page. Suspect it takes up most of it for some folks. The cute little icons for My settings, inbox etc. Are classy but not helpful to the new folks. I've explained to others more than once how to add a picture to your settings so maybe that needs to go up top in the permanent posts? It is definitely an adventure to get there.
That tiny minimize button seems useless to me. Why would you want to get rid of the post listings? It may be a favorite of some folks but I don't see a point :D
In general I think the layout of the header on the page where you reply works better all around and with a few additions might be a better choice.
Good luck and thanks for asking :D
PS. Layout works fine in Firefox 2.0.0.4 for Windows.but your probably know that :D
