Help!.. I Broke My Land!

I'm new to this land editing stuff, so a walk through would be very welcome..

In the stand alone, I tried to raise the land to creat some nice mountains, and BOOM!.. huge nasty spikes a trillion miles into the sky... I'm having a terrible time trying to flatten/lower or smooth it back to normal.. but the more I try the worse it gets, now with huge pit holes too.. I need to start again. How do I reset the island back to normal?

And can I download ready made buildings/trees/plants/autos/ etc for using in the stand alone?

Thanks..

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

which version of standalone?

type in the command window: terrain fill 21

that would level the land at 21m altitude

and yes, using Second Inventory, you can transfer your full perms stuff to/from SL/OLG/standalone...

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

Thanks for the reply.. using SL viewer with the Version 0.5x rev r4314 simulator.

If you mean the Launch.exe.. I can only type in the command window before starting. Then it ignores that and loads the origianl sim, but with my new mess added. I cannot type in the command window after it's finnished either.

Am I using a wrong command window?

I've had a PM to say about loading a terrain.. but I have no idea how or where to do that.. nor can I find it on any toolbar in the viewer. I did manage to find some downloads.. not even sure which folder they go in..

I've only been in SL for a week, can't get a premium at paypal, my CC won't do it.. :( so cannot get a full membership to buy land at SL. Hense I didn't bother to learn how to edit terrain.

Only found out about the stand alone last night and my heart jumped for joy.... after many hours of hopeless searches in these forums for others with the same problems (none), and newbie FAQ that assume you already know the in's and out's... I'm thinking maybe I should go back to SL and look up terrain editing.

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

Just for notes we hope to have a new standalone by weeks end.

This standalone has the same terrain patch stuff we just put on the grid. (prevents spikes etc). Which is worth noting spikes should no longer be possible in world too :)

Kind Regards,

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

That's awesome news Sakai... I'll be keeping an eye on the forum for news..

And through Charm, who said a little prize sentance to me.. it didn't click before.. Doh!...  it was Charm saying about being able to have as many stand alones as we want on a PC... Thanks Charm!

As I'd only just opened the stand alone to begin playing so not much had been done.. delete the stand alone folder and unzip a new one.. snorted!... LOL

Thanks everyone!

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

Yes, Hawk, what I tend to do is to make a copy of the Ready to Run to a brand new folder for the *new* standalone.  The number of standalones you can have are limited to the disk space that you have and the power of your PC.  At one time I had nearly all my standalones on an external 500MB hard drive.  But I DID move the 18 region standalone to my C drive as it was getting a bit *too* laggy on the external (I'd had some door scripts and a waterpool script).  Following some ISP/graphics card problem with my PC, I managed to somehow create some boot sector error on the external hard drive.  So I copied the standalones back to the C drive.  Several days later I got a NEW external 500MB hard drive but for now am leaving *most* of the standalones on the hard drive, using the new external hard drive for new ones or ones I've "upgraded" to the Ready to Run 4000 series (most current one available *at-the-moment*).  I *think* I found that if I *didn't* download a fresh version of Ready to Run to the new subdirectory, I got some kind of socket error message (if it didnt' happen immediately, it would happen the next time I ran the standalone or down the road).  They're kind of piggy on the disk space that they use, but I could care less! LOL.

Oh, in my triage recovery (or preparation for its eventual death, which later came), I backed up my builds to xml and emailed the xml files to myself as a further precaution.  While the builds back over to my hard drive, all with structure, location, content, concepts intact and MOST of the textures intact, I found that when I uploaded an xml file to my HUSBAND'S computer, everything was there EXCEPT all the textures were gray! LOL.  I think that has to do with caching and so I never clear my cache in OLG or the standalones on my computer!  (I don't DARE! LOL).

And that OpenLife.raw file that is in your main directory of Ready to Run, I've always gotten error messages when using that to try to get a region to the "default" terrain.

TWYL.

Re: Help!.. I Broke My Land!

OOOOO.. PC crashings.. had 5 in one year once.. and you know I do Poser. It takes on average, 4 weeks of full days and evenings.. and that is NO exagertion, to get my Poser library reinstalled, so you can imagine, I spent most of that year installing Poser bits.. LOL..

Well, I managed to create my own little worlds at last, but I cannot get the inventory to work.. But there's another thread started about that, so I joined in there rather than spliting info all over the forum..

cheers all
Hawk
