| Get the correct Inventory Items for peristent apearance. |

Persisting appearance.
Previously we used the wrong types for inventory. This is now fixed, but some of your inventory may be the wrong type. To be sure it's correct see the image below it shows the correct icons in the R14 viewer.
My appearance was playing up and I checked my inventory and saw the wrong types. Deleted all those made new ones and applied them they had the correct icons and my appearance is now working.

As the shape has the correct icon can we continue to use this - i.e. we don't need to recreate shape? |

Ok, I redid everything to make sure they all had the correct icon, hair, shape, skin, and eyes. Carefully saved it all and donned prim hair. Logged back in and back to default avie. The only thing I am wondering. Is I am using an old skin texture I saved previous to the big update. Could that have anything to do with it? Frustrating to say the least. |

I run the Kirsten R14, I have persistent clothes and shape, but I don't see those icons.
After some experimenting, when in appearance editing, after modifying the "New Shirt", if you choose "save as" to rename it, for example "Old Monk's shirt", the shirt with the new name will be created, but with the "body" icon and is the plain vanilla shirt, not the modified one. The "New Shirt" in inventory is the modified one.Only by renaming the "New Shirt" in inventory can you change the name. "Save As" is useless in this case. This goes for all items in appearance. I too have persistant clothing, shape etc. despite still having the old, incorrect icons. I did have to put them all on again after the update but since then they have persisted. |

I use to have persistent clothing, shape, etc, but not anymore. Today I have tried making new shape, skin, eyes, bald head and even uploaded new skin textures. Donned all the above, stripped to no clothing (to make sure not an issue with something I was wearing). Logged out (oh and tried once clearing cache). Waited a good 5 minutes, logged back in. Naked as a jaybird wearing default shape & default hair. URGGG! |

If I understand correctly, you logged out naked. Then of course you will still be naked when you log back in.
Unless you missed a step in your list of steps.

Yes, I took off clothes so to eliminate that as being the cause of my coming back into the world in the default state. My skin, shape, eyes, and head are all the proper icons like Sakai's picture yet when I log in, I am ruthed again wearing my skin. I have tried about everything to see if I can find why my shape & hair is not persisting. I even made a new avatar but the same thing happened. I made a new skin NOT using skin textures, it still happens. Hopefully, Sakai will find a reason. |

Interestingly it seems these results are true for some and not for others. We've found a few bugs and made a couple of small patches but I think it'll be next week before the main changes can be applied.
We'll continue to looks at it and hopefully come up with a solutio soon if someone else doesn't.

I understand better now. That one bizarre bug. Seems Sakai has the answer already. Meditating Avatar

Update! My avatar is now fixed. Not sure if you patched it Sakai or if I found the solution. All I did was put everything in a folder, eyes, hair, shape, skin, along with clothes & prim hair. I dropped the folder on me. Next time I logged in, I had persistence! Except for the prim hair, of course. But, I was quite pleased to see that bald head!!
I might add before, I was simply, selecting each item one at a time, and choosing wear. |

| Today I managed to make new hair and new skin but I can't do anything about the shape or the eyes yet. I will probably log on later and see a dozen "new shapes" in my inventory and a least as many eyes. |

New to these forums and OL, not new to SL. MAJOR problems editing appearance. Random persistence when using sliders on body shape, etc. Also, even if I use Save As for shape, then wear the new shape, then go to edit it, the Edit Appearance window shows the Man001 shape as being worn, rather than the correct Oryx shape. Very confusing; Oryx shape shows as being worn in Inventory. Which am I editing??? |

YAY!! Welcome to the forums and OLG! Woo hoo.
Appearance persistance was giving me issues the other night too. Though I can save a shape and have it save, it seemed to switch to another shape when I logged in again. This is odd as it seems to have started with the last server update.
Try deleting all shapes and starting with one. I know things are buggy right now.. the beta tests of RealXTend are what we are waiting for with baited breath. Avatar issues of old will be gone and we will have a cool new look. :)
I hope you hang in there.. be sure and check out the chat room to get fast help for these things too, Oryx.

Hey Mac! I feel like such an uber-newbie here, LOL. So I shouldn't worry about the existing sliders too much? What's RealXTend? I'll keep playing and trying to get it to work; in the meantime, I'm still exploring. :) |

Lol. Don’t worry.. I still feel like a newbie pretty often around here. ;)
RealXTend is another opensource project to help people create virtual worlds. They have relied on the OpenSim project technology in the past but added some VERY cool features (mesh objects, better Avatars, shadows that don’t lag you out, etc).
OpenLife is the first virtual world platform that will be running this on a grid wide scale. Sakai (founder of OpenLife) is an admin there and works closely on the project. The beta test will be soon so , yeah.. don’t fret much over them sliders and appearance changes. When the new tech hits things like shapes, skins and other avi attachments will be removed from the database anyway.
Here are a few links that can get you up to speed on RealXTend and the features that are coming soon here. I am including my blog because I write up on OpenLife more than anything. Don’t take it as a pushing my blog for numbers move.. I really don’t worry about that stuff as much as just trying to help. J
http://www.realxtend.org/ (The official site of RealXtend)
http://olxchange.ning.com/ (Social network for OpenLife users that has great info and can help you meet people.. Maureen is there too).
http://avimagic.blogspot.com/ (my crappy blog :P)
Hmm. Maybe someone else can offer some more links. These are the only RealXTend focused ones I know of that will show you about it.
If you happen across Gitfinger Hotspur he keeps a great set of landmarks in his invo and can get you some to explore.
Oh, Claire is here too somewhere. Amara has an old account but I am not sure she gets here much. There are great people here it is just a matter of catching them online. Again, the chat room is a great resource for that.
